I’m Koko from Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour. Thank you for reading our blog.

This may be sudden, but — I love Mongolia.
And not just “like it.”
There are plenty of other places I love. So why, out of all of them, did I choose Mongolia?

Maybe it’s because Mongolia lets me face my own heart.
And I recently realized it’s because Tsogto gave me the chance to do that.

Tsogto’s staff don’t try to change anyone.
They simply create a space where you can be yourself, just as you are.
And within that space, I think people change on their own.

That’s why I don’t want to sell tours.
I want to offer time to look at your life again.

I want more people to experience that feeling I had on the vast steppe — the feeling of “being kept alive.”

So I’ve written this article to answer, once again, the question: what is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour?

It’s a long read, but I hope you’ll give it a try!

Prologue: Not just a travel company — more like a way of life?

What kind of company is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour, really?
I’ve been asking myself that for a long time.
Because “a travel company in Mongolia” just doesn’t cover it…

Yes, we plan tours, and our staff run them.
Guests come to Mongolia, ride horses, stay in gers and spend time in nature.
But I’ve come to think that what looks like an “experience” is really an encounter, a lesson, and perhaps even a turning point in someone’s life.

I’ve seen and heard our guests’ smiles and emotions so many times.
Children crying, “I don’t want to go home.”
Adults telling us, “This trip changed my life.”
And repeat guests who keep coming back, saying, “I want to come home here again.”

That isn’t just an experience.
Isn’t it time spent facing the act of living head-on, once again…?

The more I thought about it, the less I understood…

Chapter 1: Why is everyone at Tsogto smiling?

Tsogto’s staff laugh a lot. Really a lot.
They work from morning till night — where does all that energy come from?
But when they’re tired, they say so plainly: “I’m tired.”

The first time I went to the tourist ger camp, I was honestly surprised:
“Why do these people look like they’re having so much fun?”
They joked around while working, chatting with the nomads and the other staff — I had no idea what they were saying, but they clearly enjoyed it.

When guests arrived, they didn’t stiffen up into “staff mode.” They stayed exactly who they are.
And guests naturally joined that circle.

We value a style where guests stay among staff who are enjoying their work.
Because Mongolians can show their wonderful hospitality best when they themselves are having a good time.

Somehow, at that moment, it all made sense to me.

To be honest, at first I thought, “Shouldn’t they be a bit more disciplined and professional?”
But after a month together, I understood.

For them, working and living aren’t two separate things.
Both are simply time spent living.
Nobody needs to tell them to “try harder” — they just get things done.
When they’re tired, they rest.
When they’re angry, they’re angry; when they laugh, they laugh.

That’s all — and yet the team runs smoothly.

Back when I was giving myself a stomachache worrying about schedules,
one of the staff said to me:

“There’s no point worrying. What’s coming will come, and what isn’t, won’t.”

At that moment I thought, “Is it really OK to think like that?”
But afterwards, strangely, the tension just drained out of me.

Behind the Mongolian “It’s fine, it’s fine,”
there’s the strength of trusting in your own ability.

Making do with what you have, right here.
How many times has that simplicity saved me?

And I realized:
working happily doesn’t just mean laughing your way through the day.
It means believing in yourself and truly living the time you have now.
That’s why Tsogto’s staff can laugh the way they do.
I see — working happily can bring smiles to so many people.

Chapter 2: Where that comfortable distance comes from

Somehow the words “guide” and “instructor” don’t quite fit Tsogto’s staff.
Rather than people who show guests around,
“companions who travel with you” feels closer.

No matter how many tours they run, they give each person their full attention.
But they don’t get too close either.
Not “guest” and “staff,” but person to person.

At night I see guides and guests chatting under the stars,
or playing cards together after a ride.
No one tells them to — it just happens.
And while some are talking, others sit silently watching the steppe or looking up at the stars.
Everyone has their own time flowing.
And yet, strangely, it feels like we’re all sharing the same air.

One guest once said:

“Tsogto’s guides know when to take a step back.
That felt incredibly comfortable.”

Those words have stayed with me.
I think it’s the distance you keep when you’re trusted.
Not interfering too much, but never leaving you alone.
Just the right human warmth.

That delicate distance can’t be created with a manual.
The reassurance of thinking, “I’m in good hands with this person.”
Tsogto’s guides simply have it. They’ve built it.
That’s why guests can open up,
and talk honestly.

Chapter 3: Team Tsogto

Erdene Tourist Ger Camp — the home base of Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour.
I don’t think it’s just a place to sleep.
Our repeat guests all say the same things:
“This is the place.” “I’m back!” “Look how big the kids have grown!” “Zagsaa, long time no see — I came to see you!” “I wonder if I’ll see so-and-so this time…”

What makes them feel that way?
There are probably many reasons:
Mongolia’s blue sky, the clear wind, the sound of the horses,
and the smiles of the people here.
But I think the real reason is that this place is where they belong.

Even first-timers somehow feel nostalgic.
The staff greet you with a smile: “Welcome home,” “Hello,” “Come on in.”
Guests become friends naturally,
and even though they’ve only just met, there are no walls between them.
Maybe it’s the Mongolian people’s power to accept others…

You don’t have to judge anyone or try too hard to please.
You can just be yourself, here.
In everyday life back home, protecting yourself becomes second nature,
but here there’s no need.
Before you know it, everyone is laughing,
and that laughter blows through the ger like the wind across the steppe.

Tsogto’s staff are like relatives.
No — “team” feels like the better word.
They work together from morning till night and eat dinner together in the evening,
talking about work, and sometimes laughing hard about nothing in particular.
“Is it OK for work to look this fun?” — that was the first time I’d ever thought that.
That fun rubs off on the guests,
so even if you come alone, you won’t feel lonely.
In fact, because you came alone, you can feel your connections with people more deeply.

The guides judge their distance from guests perfectly.
Not too close, never pushing you away.
When it’s time to talk, they talk; when it’s quiet, they enjoy the quiet.
On a Tsogto tour, I think simply spending time together is the hospitality.
Not managing anyone, not flattering anyone,
just sharing the same time.
Maybe it’s closer to daily life than to a “tour”…

In that atmosphere,
“It’s OK, it’s OK, don’t worry,”
“Come on, let’s wrestle together!”
words like these fly around naturally.
Guests who are touched by that kindness
gradually come to accept each other too.
And the whole camp is wrapped in a warm atmosphere.

All the “I have to…” and “I should be…” of everyday life come undone here.
What remains is simply you, as you are.

One evening, guests from different tours became friends after dinner,
and someone said, “What a great meeting — let’s all take a photo together!” So we took a group photo at Erdene Tourist Ger Camp.
Most of them had come alone or as a pair. About twenty people in one photo —
as I took it, I thought to myself: this could only happen on a Tsogto tour.

Another time, a child apparently cried at the airport on the way home:
“I don’t want to leave Mongolia! I don’t want to never see that big brother again. I’m definitely going back to see him!!!”
When I heard those honest feelings, I was happy from the bottom of my heart.
I think it’s proof that Erdene Tourist Ger Camp had become not just a place on a trip,
but a place where her heart belonged.

For me too — even though I’m working there — my heart feels strangely at peace.
While talking with someone,
in some unguarded moment, I find myself again.
Maybe that’s what Erdene Tourist Ger Camp is.

Chapter 4: What our guests’ words taught me

What I love most of all are the messages we receive from guests after they get home.

One family sent us a message.
The mother wrote:

“My younger daughter cried as the plane took off.
She said she wanted to ride horses again and didn’t want to leave Mongolia.
I understood exactly how she felt, and I cried with her.
That had never happened before.”

The moment I read it, my chest tightened. Having seen that family there in person, it moved me even more.
A 5-day tour that makes people say they don’t want to go home —
where else in the world could you find that?

Her daughter made friends with the nomad children,
and even without a common language, they ran around and played every day.
Just imagining it brings tears to my eyes.

Riding horses is important, of course, but it made me realize that meeting people matters even more.
A trip to Mongolia isn’t sightseeing — it’s a journey of the heart.

At Erdene Tourist Ger Camp, someone’s voice is always echoing. But there are quiet times too.
At night, staff and guests get carried away chatting about nothing much. And sometimes everyone just spends their own time, doing nothing at all.

I can’t quite explain it, but it feels good.

Among them are people who come back again and again.
Laughing, “I couldn’t stay away!” —
as if they were coming home for the holidays.

And they all say the same thing:

“A Tsogto tour just has to be at Erdene Tourist Ger Camp.”

I see — maybe Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour
isn’t a trip at all, but a place everyone comes home to.

Epilogue: What is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour?

“What kind of tour is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour?”
I’ve been asked this question many times.

And every time, I struggled a little to answer.
While writing this, I understood why: what happens here doesn’t fit inside the word “tour.”

Riding horses isn’t the only purpose.
Nor is it only about enjoying the speed of galloping across the steppe.
What this tour truly values, I think,
is “meeting people, and meeting yourself.”

When you drive across the Mongolian steppe,
the word “life” naturally comes to mind.

Some days the wind is strong.
Some days it rains.
But at some moment, the wind and the rain stop.

Ah — so that’s how it is.
Life is probably the same.

That’s what a Tsogto tour teaches you.
Not with words, but with your body.
Not with your head, but with your heart.

Erdene Tourist Ger Camp and the nomads’ gers are out on the steppe, with all the inconveniences of life far from the city.
You may not find the things you’d find in a city.
But you’ll find human warmth.
I think that is Mongolia — and that is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour.

“What is Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour?”
If I had to put it in one phrase, maybe this:

A place where you can return to your true self.

Just rocking along on a horse, laughing with nomads, watching the sunrise, feeling the wind, talking with someone.
That alone lets the self deep inside you quietly show its face.

It’s a destination on someone’s journey,
and at the same time, another home for someone.

And I think:
this tour isn’t “once and done,”
but a place you’ll remember again and again throughout your life.

That landscape,
that atmosphere,
those smiles.

And that time.

Every time you remember it,
you’ll think, “OK — I’ll keep going.”

Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour
is a place that gives you that strength to live — that’s what I believe.

And I want to keep protecting Tsogto Mongolia Horse Riding Tour, just as it is.

That turned out long…
Thank you so much for reading to the end!
